Archer Hotel Capital is delighted to announce that Marriott Brussels has achieved Green Key certification. This recognises the hotel’s implementation of sustainable practices across environmental management, procurement, guest and staff engagement amongst others.
The recent renovation included energy saving measures such as room management systems with sensors to switch off unnecessary heating and lighting when rooms are vacant, energy efficient lifts and cooling equipment and upgrading to triple glazed windows. BREEAM standard water efficient bathroom fittings have been installed and lighting upgraded to LED. Archer worked with project manager Stapelbroek and Rehotel to give old guestroom furniture a second life in projects in the Czech Republic and to local charities, whilst using vintage furniture in the hotel’s new café concept Barcine. 80% of suppliers used for refurbishment have an environmental management system or environmental product label.
Operational ESG projects implemented since conversion to franchise under AHM (Archer Hotel Management) include chemical-free cleaning, increased local sourcing of food and drinks and complete recycling facilities. Single use plastic has been reduced by providing refillable bottles and water machines for guests on each floor. Electric vehicle and bike charging have been installed and guests that travel to Brussels by train receive €15 restaurant credit. A community engagement programme has also been established with Clair Matin, a local charity supporting vulnerable young people where hotel associates volunteer.
Congratulations to the Marriott Brussels team and thank you for demonstrating your passion for ESG!
